Bio
Over the course of a twenty-five-year touring career, Susan Werner has become one of the most respected and captivating live performers on the acoustic music circuit. A gifted guitarist who began playing at age five, an accomplished pianist featured on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz, and a trained vocalist with a graduate degree in voice performance, Werner brings exceptional musicianship and versatility to every performance.
Known for her adventurous songwriting and stylistic range, she has explored the sounds of classic American songwriting inspired by George Gershwin and Cole Porter on I Can’t Be New (2004), gospel music on The Gospel Truth (2007), traditional Cuban son on An American in Havana (2016), and New Orleans piano traditions on NOLA (2019). In 2014, she composed the music and lyrics for Bull Durham, The Musical for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Her recent recordings include The Birds of Florida (2022) and Halfway to Houston (2024), continuing a career defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and fearless musical exploration.
